Christoph
Christoph was born in Oberdiessbach in the Emmental in 1956. As a boy he stayed mainly on the neighboring farm and often helped out out of interest. From the age of 12, orienteering and the associated competitions and training camps were a formative pastime for him. At the age of 17 he founded an orienteering group with others, organized competitions and drew orienteering cards.

Studying mechanical engineering at the ETH brought him to Zurich. Afterwards, thanks to a grant from the Japanese government, she went on to study for a master’s degree in biotechnology at the Tokyo University of Technology.
​
Professionally, he found his challenges in Zurich Oberland companies such as Chemap AG, Zellweger Uster AG and Mettler Toledo AG. Here he worked for over 36 years with bioreactors, yarn clearers, automatic laboratory reactors and analytical devices. He was significantly involved in the development of over 25 devices.
​
Since his eight-month trip around the world in 1979 at the age of 23, Asia has been his second home. Since then he has felt at home in Japan, Korea, China and, more recently, in Vietnam.
​
As a retiree, he would now like to try something new and dedicate himself entirely to running the Bistro Hanoi. He enjoys direct customer contact.

Huyen
Huyen was born in 1970 in Thanh Hoa, North Vietnam, under the last bombings of the Vietnam War. See Wikipedia at Thanh Hóa Bridge. This bridge was hotly contested from 1968 to 1972 and is only 5km from Huyen's birthplace.
​
Only a few years later the war with the Chinese continued. Vietnam was then one of the poorest countries in the world. Hunger and the explosion of a bomb in the neighborhood are the most formative memories of her early childhood years.
​
Logically, many Vietnamese tried their luck abroad at the time. That's how it happened that Huyen started working in a Russian textile company at the tender age of 17.
​
She became a mother and then raised her two daughters in Russia, which was foreign to her. When things got a little better in Vietnam and hunger was no longer the main issue, she took her daughters to their parents in Vietnam, where they then went to school.
​
However, Huyen stayed in Russia to support children and parents financially. When the economic situation of the Vietnamese in Russia deteriorated due to Putin's reforms, she went to Beijing and started working in restaurants.
​
When she first visited Switzerland in 2016 on a trip through Europe, she fell in love with Switzerland... because everything is so clean and tidy there!
​
She is a passionate cook and quite a perfectionist when it comes to cooking. She has now had several years of experience as a cook in Beijing and Zurich and has proven that she is an excellent cook.
​
Today she is really looking forward to finally being her own chef and being able to welcome her own guests!
